In 1880, Sam Leeds is driven out desert mining town of Spanish Boot, New Mexico by the mayor who no longer wants the gambler or his kind in his community. When Sam learns that a group of Apaches are preparing to mount an attack against Spanish Boot he is forced to return to the town to warn the at first unbelieving populace.

Apache Drums marked Val Lewton's last film and his only Technicolor production. Lewton died of a heart attack on March 14th 1951 and the film was released shortly after his death. In 1956, the picture was reissued by Realart.
