![]() Produced by David Selznick who believed Jennie was going to be comparable to Gone with the Wind, the film cost four million dollars to make at a time when movie tickets cost 45 cents. And it took two years to complete. It was directed by William Dieterle who always wore white gloves on set and was considered to be a sadist by his crews. It was written and rewritten and rewritten by Paul Osborn whose credits include The Yearling, East of Eden and South Pacific. It starred frequent screen team Joseph Cotten and Selznick's wife Jennifer Jones. It was gossip column fodder for every month in production. And at the end of it all it turned out to be a pretty good movie offering the best performance of Jones' career.
