This draft of the screenplay for King Kong -- merely KONG on the title page -- is alternately dated September 1, 1932 changes or September 6, 1932 changes. If you found your way here from the Val Lewton Screenplay Collection (also hosted on this site) you'll find the script for Kong to be very different. The piece is very much a free form thing with screenplay formatting mixed with quasi-screenplay formatting and prose passages. There is also some doubling back and Beauty kills the Beast twice in this script as a result of rewrite pages overlapping the pages of an older draft. The script is a fun read and offers up some nice, sketchy little descriptive passages including a favorite of mine, "Denham bustles in. Full evening dress, silk hat, gardenia. He is excited and important." |
